PEN and INK DRAWINGS
I love pen & ink! I let the grade 9's choose their own image with the only restriction that they incorporate a subtle framing device around their subject. Lots of pen & ink practice in their sketchbook before starting this drawing.

PRINTMAKING - SELF PORTRAITS
I started my grade 9's with a cut poetry assignment - choosing random words and phrases and arranging into them into 'poetry'. They had no idea what it would eventually be paired up with. Then they produced self-portrait lino prints with one print from the edition paired up with their cut poetry. There's an interesting and amusing relationship that happens between the words and the image which I'm not sure would have happened had they known the poetry component to this project was going to be a companion to their own image.
CLASSROOM GALLERY
Here are a variety of drawings (grades 8-12) that were left behind over the years and now grace my classroom walls.

PICASSO PETS
"Picasso Pets" was a really successful drawing project and was accessible to everyone at any skill level. My grade 9's selected an animal image which was their reference for their oil pastel abstraction on coloured construction paper. There was of course some prior discussion about Picasso, abstraction, patterns, colour etc.

SKETCHBOOKS
I'm sure I'm not the only art teacher that loves their student's sketchbooks! It's wonderful to see the different personalities emerge and the sense of pride the students have. Here are a few photos of some IB 11 sketchbooks that I was looking at the other day. Enjoy! (Just click on a picture to enlarge it).
